Manufacturer Meggitt Inc. Selects IFS Applications ERP
Meggitt (Maryland) Inc., a Germantown, MD-based division of Meggitt
Sensing Systems, has selected IFS Applications as its enterprise
resource planning (ERP) system of record.
Meggitt (Maryland) Inc. produces the industry-leading Wilcoxon
Research line of accelerometers, vibration sensors, and accessories for
industrial predictive maintenance applications. These sensors are
essential to vibration monitoring programs that save money, reduce
downtime, and enable maintenance to be planned before equipment failure.
The company is based in Germantown, Maryland and operates as a division
of Meggitt Sensing Systems, which has nine manufacturing sites across
the United States and Europe.
According to Meggitt (Maryland) president Derek Carbin, IFS
Applications was selected from large field of ERP products for its
ability to meet the diverse needs of the company, which manufactures
both industrial/commercial products and highly engineered products for
leading edge applications.
Meggitt (Maryland) will implement a broad spectrum of IFS
Applications with functionality including IFS Business Performance, IFS
Financials, IFS Distribution, IFS Manufacturing, IFS Engineering/Product
Design, IFS Maintenance, IFS Sales and Support, and IFS Human Resources.
“IFS Applications was the best fit to handle our diverse needs
without sacrificing flexibility, ease of navigation or agility,” Dr.
Carbin said. “Our organization will be in a much better position for
growth with this move to IFS Applications and our customers will benefit
as we will be able to provide much more timely and detailed reporting
and automated order placement with immediate email acknowledgement. It
will provide us with greater visibility of inventory and enable us to
manage it much better than today.”

Free White Paper: ERP Can Be A Barrier To
Agility in Electric Power Sector
Many companies in the electric power industry are facing major
changes including
consolidation, extensive construction of new assets, asset lifecycle
extensions or
deployment of new business models or technologies. Never before has the
ability to
effect rapid business change - enterprise agility - been so important in
this sector.
But in many cases, the enterprise software they use to run their
business is not
equipped to help them successfully negotiate these changes. According to
the
results of a study conducted by IFS North America and POWER magazine,
the
enterprise resource planning (ERP), enterprise asset management (EAM)
and other
enterprise software can be a significant barrier to enterprise agility.
In the study,
100 energy executives shared their thoughts about whether their
enterprise software
was helping or hindering their enterprise agility.
In this whitepaper, we’ll examine the different enterprise agility
barriers reported
by study respondents and discuss how energy industry executives can
select software
for enhanced enterprise agility and change readiness.

Podcast: Three Service Management Software Strategies
Explained
This
month on the IFS Radio Network podcast series, service management tech
expert Ian Map of IFS 360 Scheduling discusses the three strategies for
using technology to manage field service technicians.
Various software tools used to manage
that field work force use, according to Mapp, either a manual, a
traditional scheduling or a real-time scheduling approach. These three
strategies represent increasing degrees of sophistication and
automation. But not every company requires that most sophisticated,
real-time, scheduling approach.
|
"In a low volatility
slow moving environment, it makes sense to maybe do things
manually. Also when you are a start-up company without a
whole lot of techs or a whole lot of customers or a lot of
visits to be made… it is entirely appropriate to do things
manually…
Where this falls down is if we
are in a volatile environment and things change so it is
hard to reconfigure a whole day as you have to make a large
number of decisions or if you have a lot of techs.
Everything we have seen suggests the maximum number one
dispatcher can support is 15 - at the outside 20 -
technicians. So if you have a growing labor force, this
becomes very labor-intensive as you have a lot of
dispatchers in the back office managing the techs out in the
field… Also just sheer complexity. Making the right decision
is seriously hard if you've got to consider where the techs
are, what they are doing, what their skills are, which
shifts they are on, which spare parts they need for this
job, what the (service level agreement) is for this job, do
they need certifications to be on site, do they need
security clearance. Once you start considering how complex
the decision is, it becomes seriously hard to do it manually."

Contract Sales

"I have been
working for IFS for over 13 years, and I work with sales
contracts from my home office in Cleveland, Ohio.
The thing I like most about working for IFS is really the
people. I am fortunate to work with a great group of colleagues
who are always willing to help out and support each other. It is
a true testament to the culture within the IFS organization.
On a
personal note, my husband's name is Jeff and we have an 8-year
old Portuguese water dog named Maggie.
In my free time
I like hanging out with family and friends; watching movies;
reading; and taking our dog for a walk in the Metro Parks. |
