Yorktel Selects IFS Applications ERP Solution
 Yorktel,
an Eatontown, New Jersey-based pioneer and innovator in the audio, video
and web collaboration industry, has selected IFS Applications for its
enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
Yorktel offers total managed conferencing services, consulting,
integration and operational services, professional video production and
postproduction for visual communication solutions such as
videoconferencing, streaming media, video on demand, custom media studio
and room design and multimedia network management.
After the conclusion of a thorough ERP selection process, Yorktel
chose IFS Applications and will implement IFS Business Performance, IFS
Financials, IFS Distribution, IFS Manufacturing, IFS Engineering/Product
Design, IFS Maintenance, IFS Sales and Support, and IFS Human Resources.
“IFS’ project-based solution stood out for its ability to adapt to
our changing business needs and market changes, right out of the box,”
Yorktel Chief Executive Officer Ron Gaboury said. “We have experienced
tremendous business growth over the past few years and we found our
current business system wasn’t agile enough to support such growth. So
our number one priority is the migration of our current system to a next
generation ERP solution like IFS Applications to support the future
growth of Yorktel.”
Yorktel also is looking forward to gaining increased visibility into
its projects with IFS Applications. Gaboury believes the solution will
help Yorktel react faster to customer demands, communicate more complete
real-time data regarding customer projects in process and schedule its
resources more efficiently.”

Free White Paper: IFS Touch Apps
Apps are perhaps the biggest phenomenon to hit our
lives as digital consumers in
recent years. However the use of apps, beyond mobile
e-mail, is still low in business organizations.
Challenges with skills shortage, historic lack of
packaged apps from business software vendors, and IT
concerns around deployment, manageability and
security, are all factors behind this. These
challenges are being addressed by the IT industry.
At IFS we believe that we are now at a tipping point
where we will see availability and uptake of apps
usage in business increase rapidly.
IFS support the use of apps within business,
together with IFS Applications, through IFS Touch
Apps - a series of Smartphone apps for Google’s
Android and Apple’s iOS platforms.

Podcast: Mobile ERP Security

Consumerization of enterprise IT, bring
your own device (BYOD), smart phones, tablets, pads … all are changing
the balance of power when it comes to enterprise IT security.
As tools like IFS Touch Apps make more
enterprise data available on handhelds that are easily lost or stolen
and are not under direct control of an IT department, how do you
mitigate the risk? In this month’s interview episode of the IFS Radio
Network podcast series. IFS North America Chief Technology Officer Rick
Veague discusses these security challenges… as well as technology and
management strategies for dealing with them.
"Whether the CIO or
VP likes it or not, users are going to find a way to get
corporate information assets on their devices, and that
raises all kinds of questions about security and control.
Some people would argue that this is a new problem that we
are facing, but I would argue that if we went back a few
years when all data was disseminated on paper, we really had
the same problem. Executives carried sensitive customer
information around on pieces of paper in their brief cases,
which were easily lost or parted with. This is not a new
problem organizations face – it is just a different set of
technology constraints on how to solve it."

Soil Machine Dynamics Selects IFS to Help Improve
Project Management
IFS,
the global enterprise applications company, today
announced that Soil Machine Dynamics (SMD) has chosen
IFS Applications as its new Enterprise Resource Planning
(ERP) system. With IFS Applications, SMD will integrate
the project-centric business’s processes across a number
of locations, delivering benefits including improved
operational efficiency and better project management.
The contract represents a substantial investment by SMD
and is the single largest IT project in the company’s
history.
Founded in 1971, SMD provides the world’s largest
range of subsea remotely operated vehicle systems (ROVs)
from work-class to more specialist vehicles such as
trenching and cable burials, which are used when, for
example, organizations need to lay and protect telecoms
cables under the sea. The company’s specialist equipment
is also used in subsea mining, marine renewable energy
and nuclear decommissioning sectors.
Richard Lowery, Finance Director at SMD, said, “SMD
currently has a number of disparate IT systems, used for
managing different aspects of the business. As the
business has grown significantly over the past few
years, we realized the need for an integrated end-to-end
IT solution that would provide a platform to support
growth and improve efficiency across the entire
company.”
IFS Applications 7.5 will be used to handle the
design, engineering and manufacturing of SMD’s systems,
and the management of the projects for a wide range of
customers. As part of the contract, SMD will also
receive Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) functionality
via IFS Applications, ensuring that the company can keep
track of each system - from its initial design to its
assembly and use in the field.
According to Richard, SMD selected IFS for a number
of reasons, including the company’s track record in the
industry and its proven ability to deploy its ERP
application seamlessly and on time. “Most importantly,”
said Richard, “the solution offered by IFS closely
matched our requirements – better than other options we
considered. IFS Applications allows our business to be
more agile and adaptable: better able to meet our
constantly changing operational needs, and our evolving
business needs. At the same time, it helps us to retain
the high quality of customer service that has led us to
be the number one independent designer of ROVs.”
