Damen Shipyards Goes Live With IFS
Applications
Damen Shipyards has implemented IFS
Applications to streamline its business
processes throughout the organization.
Software usability will improve thanks to
IFS Enterprise Explorer, a modern
user-friendly, intuitive interface that
increases operational productivity.
Damen Shipyards Gorinchem is part of the
Damen Shipyards Group, employing more than
6,700 people worldwide. The Damen Shipyards
Group builds 150 ships annually, ranging
from tugboats and ferries to navy frigates
and super yachts. The company owns a large
number of repair yards. Damen S hipyards
Gorinchem uses IFS Service Management to
manage ship repairs and spare parts sales.
In addition, Damen uses call center and
warranty management functionality from IFS
to handle customer queries related to
warranties. It will also use IFS
Applications to run its financials
processes. As of next spring, Damen will
also use the contract management and project
management components in IFS Applications.
With these components, the company will be
able to support projects including service
and repair work to new fabrication projects.
Damen Shipyards Gorinchem chose IFS
Applications at the end of 2009 to improve
project monitoring and efficiency. With this
solution, the company reduced delivery times
and optimized information flows. This was
all done within the framework of the ‘Dawn’
project, in which Damen focused on
introducing uniform processes, systems and
master data in all product groups and
throughout the production chain.
"Our principal reasons for choosing IFS
Applications were the modern user-friendly
user interface, IFS’ global service and
support network, and the fact that the
project, service, engineering, purchasing,
logistics and fabrication processes were
completely integrated," Damen Shipyards
Gorinchem ERP Project Leader Aart-Jan van
der Wekken said.

Free White Paper: IUID - What
Does It Mean to You?
Item Unique Identification (IUID) is mandated
throughout the supply chain by the U.S. Department
of Defense (DoD) for new procurement of items over
$5,000.
If your organization supplies or maintains assets
for the DoD, IUID is something you need to address.
The indications are that other countries, including
the UK MoD, will also adopt the standard. The good
news is that IUID is a simple concept, and IFS
believes it offers real benefits across the defense
enterprise. The challenge is that IUID is
deceptively simple - understanding the requirement
and implementing it within your enterprise supply
chain, inventory and maintenance management
solutions is not trivial.
Read more about what IUID could mean for
your organization.
Podcast: Lock Out Tag Out in Enterprise
Software
Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO)
is an essential safety procedure in any industrial environment. In this
month's interview epis ode
of the IFS Radio Network, IFS Sales Consultant Nick Carberry shares
experiences and insights regarding LOTO. LOTO is best handled within an
enterprise software application, according to Carberry, to streamline
communication with everyone touching the equipment. Carberry also shares
a sobering account of a software selection process at a pulp and paper
mill.
|

"We
were looking at several plants across their
portfolio... One of the reasons they were
switching to a new EAM system was ensuring
that lock out tag out was in place. The
reason being they were coming from a very
antiquated system that did not have a
workflow in place for lock out tag out or
LOTO. In one of the instances they talked
about, they did have a fatality at the
plant. There were certain parts of a machine
being shut down for an extended period of
time, and at the very beginning of that
period, there were a lot of contractors
coming into play.
So you have
outsiders working on machines that may still
be in production to some extent. So
unfortunately there was a fatal electric
shock that was delivered to this
gentleman..."

Project-Based
Manufacturer Huber SE Selects IFS Applications to
Streamline Business Processes

Huber SE, a leading
international manufacturer of machinery and equipment
for wastewater treatment, has selected IFS Applications
as its corporate ERP solution to optimize business
processes, increase productivity and reduce throughput
times throughout its organization.
Huber SE wanted a single
fully integrated ERP solution to replace its current
software, which came from several different vendors. The
company selected IFS because IFS Applications provided
the best fit for Huber's requirements, especially in the
key areas of project-based manufacturing and
engineering, and because of the availability of local
support. Huber SE will implement IFS components for
manufacturing, engineering, distribution, service
management, document management, quality management,
project management, human resource management, and sales
and service.
"We selected IFS
Applications not just because it matched our
requirements perfectly, but also because of the industry
competence demonstrated by the IFS team," Huber SE CEO
Georg Huber said. "Having one single ERP solution will
enable us to implement uniform processes throughout the
group and will give us analysis tools, which in return
will enable us to streamline our processes and introduce
uniform best practices company-wide."
