The APICS International Conference & Expo is one of the world'sAPICS, October 23-25 largest gatherings of operations management professionals, and it provides an annual interactive learning environment to share ideas and learn from peers. On October 24th in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania IFS will be exhibiting at booth #406 and also presenting on the profitable sustainability management topic.

Session Description: From the big companies to the little guys, today's brewing companies are going the extra mile to report on their sustainability initiatives. Industry leaders recognize that sustainability encompasses the four areas of the UN Global Compact: human rights, labor, environment, and anticorruption. This session will explore corporate social responsibility (CSR) - as addressed in Global Reporting Initiative G3 guidelines - and how it is applied in the brewing industry.

Attend this session to identify what makes a good sustainability management system, learn how different breweries have developed systems to support their needs, effectively report to your stakeholders on your company’s CSR performance and learn about the G3 guidelines and how breweries follow them so well.

Why ERP Is Cool Again
Article by Doug Henschen InformationWeek

"ERP itself is old news, but enhancing legacy applications with mobile, analytics, and social features can deliver substantial value."

The article references finding from a recent IFS commissioned study. "Only 27% of manufacturing companies surveyed in June by analyst firm Mint Jutras give their employees mobile access to ERP, CRM, supply chain, or enterprise asset management apps. And only 3% of them rate their mobile CRM interfaces as excellent." Continue to full article from button below.

Free White Paper: 3 Things Decision-makers Need To Know About SOADownload White Paper

Anyone even peripherally exposed to business media that touch on enterprise
application technology has seen the term service-oriented architecture (SOA)
bandied about in advertisements and articles. Major enterprise applications vendors are using the term SOA as a marketing buzzword and are indeed moving their product offerings in directions that deliver the flexibility and total application cost reductions that SOA can offer. But given the central role that SOA is playing in information technology, it is important for professionals involved with specifying and purchasing enterprise applications to get beyond a buzzword level understanding of what SOA is and what it is not.

SOA essentially implies an application architecture made up of loosely coupled “services” (for example the various software features that are used in creating and processing a customer order), and service “consumers” (other services that need to create customer orders, for example). Most business software applications can, of course, create customer orders. But a business application that is made up of services allows one to easily “rearrange” the processes that create the need for a customer order, and how that customer order is created. This process tends to be very rigid in non-SOA applications. Want to learn more?

Podcast: Does ERP Mean Excel Runs Production?

In this month’s IFS Radio Network podcast, analyst Cindy Jutras of IFS Radio Network - Listen to Podcast!Mint Jutras reviews an IFS North America study on how poor ERP usability drives users to Microsoft Excel and other tools. IFS North America Chief Technology Officer Rick Veague discusses how IFS Applications integrates with Excel and offers intuitive usability to solve this problem.

"We recognize that Excel is a great analysis tool. But it’s not really an information management tool. So we have implemented tools and technology where you can leverage the value of your operational database using front end tools like Excel without having to move all of the data into Excel. Tools like our Business Analytics and Business Intelligence solution do exactly that. They allow you to visualize operational data managed in a secure, properly backed up, properly access-controlled manner - but still use the good user experience and the ability to manipulate data that Excel gives you."

IFS Welcomes Equipment Manufacturer Automated Packaging SystemsVisit APS's Website

IFS welcomes new customer Automated Packaging Systems (APS), - the world leader in flexible bag packaging systems. APS has selected IFS Applications for implementation at 14 sites, including 10 in the United States and four in Europe.

APS will implement IFS Financials, IFS Distribution, IFS Manufacturing, IFS Maintenance, IFS Engineering, IFS Business Performance and IFS Human Resources at its world headquarters, manufacturing facilities, and sales offices in the United States. IFS Applications implementations will also take place at its European corporate office and manufacturing facility in the United Kingdom, and offices in Belgium, France and Germany.

IFS Applications was selected to facilitate APS’ rapid international growth because it is well-equipped to handle multi-language, multi-currency, multi-mode manufacturing operations. APS’ team agreed that the IFS solution would allow its manufacturing business to standardize and streamline its existing business processes, which were managed outside of an existing ERP system.

"Throughout our selection process, IFS took the time to listen to our concerns, problems and issues. They then delivered tailored demonstrations that provided impressive solutions. In addition, we received personalized attention during the evaluation process that we believe will continue throughout the implementation process.

The IFS team seems genuinely interested in forming a true partnership with APS and this aligns well with our business philosophy. And at the end of the day, we felt that IFS provided the most cost-effective solution that will help us achieve our business objectives."

~ APS Vice President of Finance David E. Goessler

"Automated Packaging Systems is an excellent example of how IFS’ focused industry approach fits the customer’s needs," IFS Vice President of Sales Mike Lorbiecki said. "IFS Applications provides the range of components necessary for APS to run a multi-mode, complex international manufacturing business efficiently, with personalized care from the IFS team. When it comes to the ability to handle diverse business models including engineer-to-order and configure-to-order, and to do so in a single enterprise application, IFS really has no equal."

This month's spotlight is on:

Ana Thorn - Help Desk Representative

"I have been working with IFS for seven months, and I work as a help desk representative in the Milwaukee office. I am also currently attending college at the Art Institute of Wisconsin, where I am majoring in Advertising.

The thing I like most about working at IFS is that I truly enjoy the work ethic and camaraderie here.

On a personal note, I enjoy drawing, playing tennis, listening to music and collecting photos. I have taken French lessons for many years and can't wait to someday make my way to see France in person."
