IFS Podcast: How to Select ERP for Defense Manufacturing

In this month’s episode of the IFS Radio Network podcast series, IFS North America Business Solutions ConsulIFS Radio Networktant Denis Lofthouse discusses the unique needs of aerospace and defense manufacturers, and how they may far outstrip the capabilities of most enterprise applications. According to Lofthouse, the most basic need of defense manufacturers is for an engineer-to-order solution that can accommodate their program-centric business model.

"DefAerospace and Defenseense manufacturers are going to be generating something as a sub on a program or directly to some echelon of the military on a program. So it is going to be program-based manufacturing, which means there are issues like segregating the inventories for programs, tracking customer-furnished or government-furnished inventory
or equi
pment - commonly called GFM and GFE or CFM or CFE - when allowable transferring inventory between projects or programs. In this environment you will typically be creating a prototype and then doing a
lot of testing on it so there is a lot of engineering and things like that
that really need to be tracked back to the program."
