IFS Extends Its Business Intelligence Offering in North America

IFS North America has released an extension to IFS Applications 7.5 that provides Business Intelligence Dashboards. These dashboards publish metadata, including views, information sources and online analytical processing (OLAP) cubes that can support various Business Intelligence analysis methods.

This IFS Business Intelligence (BI) Dashboards Solution provides the needed access to IFS Applications data via the IFS Business Intelligence Adapter and Pre-built Role-Based Dashboards which contain components needed for business analysis of various functional areas of IFS Applications. Using standard Microsoft tools provided in SQL Server and SharePoint Server Enterprise, the IFS BI Dashboards provide the information for display in a visually intuitive and interactive fashion.

The BI Dashboards are published using Microsoft SharePoint Enterprise, which enables them to be accessed outside of IFS Applications directly on the SharePoint Site, or they can be accessed from within the IFS Enterprise Explorer (IEE) client. The diagram below indicates how this solution fits within IFS Applications.

The following Role-Based BI Dashboards are examples of IFS' BI offering. Each dashboard consists of several components including analysis cubes, Visio services, a decomposition tree analytical tool and Report Builder charts that provide links to IFS Applications screens directly from the dashboard.

The Sales Analysis Dashboard provides information regarding the sales activity of your company.  This dashboard uses data from IFS Applications and is updated automatically.

The CFO Dashboard provides information in the areas of AR Turnover, age analysis, average number of days outstanding, sales per period for the present year and a simplified statement showing performance against budget.

The Project Dashboard has two views:

The Project Manager View provides information of interest to anyone involved in the management of costs and schedules when using IFS Projects.

The Project Performance View provides report level information related to IFS Projects.

The IFS Business Intelligence Dashboard Solution is available on IFS Applications 7.5, Service Pack 5 or later. This extension can be used along with the IFS Business Analytics Excel Add-in and the IFS Business Performance Scorecard portlets.

Podcast: Integrating ERP and Business Intelligence (BI)

IFS Radio NetworkIn this month's interview episode of the IFS Radio Network, Bill Noble, IFS North America Implementation Manager and Application Analyst, provides valuable insights on integrating business intelligence (BI) tools with enterprise resources planning (ERP) According to Noble, the transactional data in ERP systems must be structured differently in order to be consumed by BI tools, and that is where much of the complexity from these projects originates. But there are both technical and non-technical reasons BI/ERP integration can be challenging, according to Noble.

"Ultimately what you need for a successful BI implementation is the technical expertise and the functional knowledge merged together...You are trying to organize your company around a consistent set of KPIs and metrics. Those KPIs and metrics are defined by the organization as a whole. But to find those within your database or within several services that you may be running, you need the technical expertise."
