Software Upgrades are a Leading
Economic Indicator for a Coming Economic Recovery
|
|
|
|
|
Recently it was reported
that more than 25 percent of
IFS' North American customer base is currently in an
upgrade process, in the formal planning process
necessary to ensure a quality upgrade, or have upgraded
within the last year. Executives at IFS and its partner
organizations – as well as customers engaged in upgrades
– suggest that healthy upgrade activity among IFS'
industrial customer base is driven by the expectation of
a robust economic recovery in coming months.
Among these customers
is EBARA International Corp., a manufacturer of
cryogenic pumps based in Sparks, Nev., which is
preparing to upgrade to IFS Applications 7.5, service
pack 4.
"Our business serves
the liquefied natural gas industry," EBARA Director of
Information Services Frank Lowery said. "Even in the
best economic times, we see some fluctuations in demand
driven by project cycles for large natural gas
processing plants, receiving terminals and ships. So we
know to take advantage of slower times to invest in our
business processes, which ultimately makes us more
competitive and efficient when demand once again peaks."

IFS Podcast: How Can EAM Drive
Lean Process in Your Maintenance Department?
|
|
|
|
|
With pressure to adopt lean
business practices intensifying, how are
industrial maintenance departments rising to the
challenge?
Increasingly, maintenance directors and senior
managers of asset-intensive industries are
relying on enterprise technology like Enterprise
Asset Management (EAM) to eliminate
non-value-added work.
In this month's
IFS Radio Network podcast, EAM expert and IFS
Business Analyst Mike Auer describes the
different ways that properly-implemented EAM
software can formalize and streamline processes,
improve communication and drive lean maintenance
improvements. Mike pays special attention to the
importance of integrating EAM tightly with other
enterprise software – including ERP – to
achieve even greater efficiencies by avoiding
duplication of efforts.
|
“The benefit
of having an EAM system out there to assist
you with your maintenance
comes at a couple of different levels.
Typically, when you get a piece of equipment
for a manufacturing line from a vendor or a
group of vendors, they have a suggested
maintenance schedule that their piece of
equipment needs to undergo … whether that
is a daily or end-of-shift greasing to an
overhaul that might be done at one-year or
two-
year intervals. And that sits on a CD, in a vendor manual or on
somebody’s desk,
but if it is not used, you lose every
bit of engineering and thought that has gone
into that plan provided by the vendor. But
if we put that into an EAM system and
schedule that maintenance out, you are being
reminded to do these maintenance
activities, and that is something a CD or
vendor manual will not do …"

Announcement: Hytrol Conveyor
Company Selects IFS Applications for
Configure/Engineer-to-Order Manufacturing
|
|
|
|
|
 Hytrol Conveyor Company (Hytrol), a
major manufacturer of conveyors and conveying systems,
has chosen IFS Applications to support its strategic
initiatives by streamlining its business practices,
reducing cycle times and expanding customer relations.
The solution will be implemented at Hytrol's factory and
technology center both located in Jonesboro, Arkansas. Hytrol chose IFS Applications to replace its inflexible
20-year-old software solution, and will implement
components for financials, supply chain, engineering,
manufacturing, sales and marketing, service and
maintenance, project management, document management,
quality management, human resources and business
analytics.
IFS was selected for its proven depth and breadth of
product functionality, ease of use, and track record of
success in similar companies, according to Hytrol
officials. "We were looking for an enterprise software
package that would enable us to better manage both
complex ETO and CTO projects, and after evaluating
several leading vendors, we found that IFS offers the
strongest solution on the market," Hytrol Director of IT
Steve Bell said.
