SEAKR Engineering Selects IFS Applications

SEAKR Engineering, which develops solid state memory systems and other products for embedded computing in the aerospace and defense industry, is implementing IFS Applications to help it better serve its OEM customers.

SEAKR's products include memory systems similar to the flash memory used in iPods, but are made rugged enough to capture mission-critical data in the demanding environment of outer space. The company's products have been used in satellites and space shuttles. Since SEAKR works on government programs in partnership with major aerospace and defense OEMs, government-mandated reporting methods like earned value management (EVM) are important. SEAKR develops its technologies for each specific application, but still has some standard parts, so it needs an enterprise environment optimized for mixed manufacturing modes, including engineer-to-order, make-to-order, make-to-stock and kitting of complex electronic assemblies.

"With IFS Applications, the activities of our various departments will be driven directly and seamlessly within the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) of the project," SEAKR Vice President Eric Anderson said. "This will make us more efficient, allow us to serve our customers better and help us to continue our trajectory of growth."

IFS Steps Up Efforts to Grow Market Share in North America's Oil and Gas Industry

IFS is building on their leading market position in Europe by increasing activities aimed at the oil and gas industry in North America. IFS already boasts a large collection of global customers in oil and gas, including Seawell, Seadrill, Neste Oil, Shawcor and KBR Energy and Chemicals. IFS Applications has been successful because it can support the entire value chain, including operators, EPCI contractors, service providers and equipment manufacturers. These segments share a common need to have complete visibility and control throughout the life of their projects, products and/or assets from design and engineering, through delivery and support.

Historically, these companies relied on a combination of point applications and home grown solutions that were expensive to integrate and support and rarely provided access to real-time, accurate information. IFS Applications provides these companies with a fully integrated solution based on advanced technology that seamlessly connects design and engineering to procurement, through manufacturing and construction and even installation, maintenance and support. The component nature of IFS Applications enables companies to select the modules that fit their business, whether they are a design and engineering firm, or a fully integrated operation.

"In the application, with or without kanban or production line management, you can also take advantage of something called alternates in the bill of material and in the standard routing. So essentially you can have lot-based production so you can handle a lot size of one versus a lot size of a thousand, and go to different machines and process it differently and have all that pre-defined. If you will, having that pre-defined makes it a lot easier at production or order fulfillment time to put that into play. Now we are executing against a predetermined routing and bill for whatever lot size we want."
