TLT-Babcock Among 25 Percent
of IFS
Customers Currently Upgrading
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
TLT-Babcock, a manufacturer
of custom engineered axial fans, centrifugal fans,
dampers, and ash handling systems, is
among the 25 percent of IFS
customers upgrading to IFS Applications 7.
According to IFS Upgrade Program
Manager Steve
Marshall, 25 percent of IFS
North America's customer base
is currently in an upgrade process, in the formal
planning process necessary to ensure a quality upgrade,
or have upgraded within the last year.
Like many other IFS customers that are
upgrading, TLT-Babcock of Akron, Ohio, is in a
project-centric industry that requires a deep
functionality and interdisciplinary application
integration.
 |
|
"We think IFS
Applications 7 is
the most significant new
release
since we have gone live.
We anticipate that our
upgrade will greatly
simplify our IFS
Application use and
heighten our focus on
projects."

John Holik,
Manager of Project
Administration, TLT-

An Alternative to WMS ... Extended
Applications
|
|
|
|
|
In May's edition of the IFS Radio Network ,
Radley Corporation Vice President David Barks points
out the pitfalls of stand-alone Warehouse Management
Systems (WMS) technology.
He suggests that manufacturers should instead
consider extending their existing enterprise
software into the warehouse. One of these pitfalls
is the fact that even after integrating WMS and an
enterprise application like ERP, a manufacturer
still winds up running two separate inventory
systems.

monthly podcasts.

"One of the costs you run into in
those dual-inventory systems is reconciliation,
where you have something in the WMS, it is
available for a customer and the
order is being done on the manufacturing system. If
there is
a discrepancy between what you
have in the WMS and what you
have in the ERP system and you
do your MRP processes, you can
wind up ordering raw material,
using capacity and building product that you already
had in your warehouse ... but you didn't know
it because your two inventory
systems weren't in synch.
That's an absolute deadly sin."
~ David Barks, Vice President, Radley

Austal Selects IFS Applications
for Increased Visibility of Costs
|
|
|
|
|
Austal USA has
chosen to implement IFS Applications to support its
growing ship manufacturing business. Austal USA, located
in Mobile, Ala., manufactures aluminum vessels, such as
commercial high speed passenger and vehicle -passenger
ferries, cruise ships, freight and offshore support
ships, and high performance military vessels.
"Our recent significant growth has
caused a need to reduce the amount of manual processes
within our business and create more visibility of our
costs and inventory," said Austal USA Director of Supply
Chain Management Terry Schroeder.
IFS' shipbuilder customers include
Akers Yards, Todd Pacific Shipyards, Ursa Shipyards and Uzmar Denizcilik.
 |
"We
chose IFS Applications to aid in the automation of
tracking our costs and project schedules. We were
impressed with what IFS Applications could do for
our business, such as increase our visibility of
costs, material lead time, and inventory, as well as
provide us a reliable process for tracking project
schedules."

Austal USA

What Our Customers are Saying - Zero
Zone
|
|
|
|
|
John
Duimstra from Zero Zone talks about their four years of
experience with IFS and how IFS Applications has helped
change their business.
He explains that IFS has been a partner in the
successful improvement of business processes. Zero Zone
first selected IFS Applications based on price,
functionality, its relatively fast implementation
timeline and because of its modular nature. This allowed
Zero Zone to
only implement the modules they needed right anyway and
add on more over the years as their business needs
changed. Hear what he also says about the competition.

NSRP Panel Discusses Lean IT Benefits
for Shipbuilders
|
|
|
|
|
A senior busines s consultant from IFS,
Denis Lofthouse,
presented to a Joint Panel Meeting of the National
Shipbuilding Research Program (NSRP) in Seattle,
Washington last month, stressing that while government
mandates are forcing naval shipbuilders to invest in
lean processes and technologies, commercial shipbuilders
are increasingly implementing similar technologies.
The meeting of shipbuilders from
around North America included a tour of IFS customer and
event host
Todd Pacific Shipyards.
According to IFS Business Software Consultant Denis
Lofthouse, who works with defense contractors, naval
shipbuilders are faced with government requirements for
earned value management (EVM) reporting and
performance-based logistics (PBL) contracting. EVM
allows a shipbuilder to develop detailed reports on the
degree of completion they have achieved on a specific
government project, while PBL is a method of buying an
asset along with the necessary support to keep it
operational.
