IFS Survey Shows Well-Designed Software is Crucial to Productivity Improvement

In a recent international survey of more than 1,000 business IT users, carried out on behalf of IFS, over a third of respondents identified the web as providing the most intuitive user experience. Only one in five cited business applications used in the workplace as easy to use - well behind the web and e-mail applications (27%).

IFS undertook the study as it planned product enhancements that rise to the challenge of bringing well-designed applications to the workplace. Embedded enterprise application search, integrated communities, enhanced navigation, and individualization options are just some of the design elements and functions that can help meet the demands of the i-generation workforce, and enhance personal and organizational productivity.

"Ninety four percent of the IT professionals surveyed readily identified areas where business applications take longer to perform specific tasks than they should. Bringing features and functions common in consumer websites into the business world was a way respondents identified as being
able to save time. Business
software buyers should be looking
for applications that have incorporated such features into
their application design now."

~ Alastair Sorbie, CEO, IFS

The Challenge of Project-Centric Manufacturing

In June's edition of the IFS Radio NetwIFS Radio Network Logoork, IFS AB Senior Advisor Antony Bourne discusses the unique needs of project-centric manufacturers who must manage subcontractors as well as work that takes place within their own operations. This business model involves greater risk that must be mitigated with intelligent use of technology. According to Bourne, project-centric business models are expanding well beyond the engineer-to-order sector where they have always been in force.

"Traditional manufacturing
companies have some of the older systems in place that don't allow
you to analyze and check and book time against some of these
activities. An example might be
the design department, where
you have a number of people
working but you have no idea who
is working on what or how much
time they are spending on it. It
may be that they are investing
a lot of time on projects or parts
that have no payback."
